About

I like open problems backed by a mission, the kind that sit between engineering, product, and research and can’t be fully solved with what’s already known.

This fall I’m a visiting student at Tsinghua University in Beijing, studying mostly machine learning with some side quests such as nuclear engineering.

I did my bachelor’s at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam/Berlin. I wrote my thesis on turning VLMs into embedding models for animal re-identification.

From 2023 to 2025 I was a founding engineer at Elephant Company, a training and knowledge platform for CleanTech scaleups and industrial companies. I joined as one of the first employees and helped scale it from zero.

I worked on many things during this time, but I mainly owned our AI course builder. I did a lot of work at the intersection of product, domain (learning and didactics), and engineering. I happened to start right after GPT-4 was released, and so experienced the evolution of “AI engineering” from its birth.

Before that, I spent 2.5 years building software at Varia, an NLP-powered research platform for journalists.

When I’ve had enough of computers, I like to run, go road cycling, or hike. Having grown up right where the Iron Curtain fell, I also enjoy thinking about progress and Europe.
